For all our married life, my late husband, Arthur, and I were avid art collectors all our . . . - Now that I’m getting really old, I see the necessity of parting with some of them. . . SADLY!

PARK in AUTUMN

Obernai, Alsace, France -Michel Krieger

Another wonderful painting by Alsatian artist, Michel, Krieger - It’s framed and is such an evocative picture. You can smell those autumn leaves. Very much impressionistic with just a few brush strokes depicting the scene. Girl reading on park bench, another girl walking her dog, and mushroom pickers in the background. Wonderful use of complementary colors - blue & orange. $2300 CN Plus Shipping

SOLD

artist: Christopher Gorey -38 x 47” watercolor under glass - Professionally framed

Cape Breton Homestead -

artist: Christopher Gorey -38 x 47” watercolor under glass - We bought this wonderful watercolor because it brought back memories of my grandparents house in Massachusetts. Nana and Papa were Maritimers from PEI who immigrated to the States when my mother, Naveta, was 12 years old. I’ve enjoyed this painting of good memories for about 30 years, and now I think I can let it go. $2,800. CN Plus Shipping

Unnamed - No Date - artist: Christie

25x30 artist: Christie - Arthur and I bought this wonderful portrait about 25 years ago in Florida. The artist was originally a New Englander, but lived in Florida for years. She’s most famous for her portraits having done a whole book of fabulous paintings of the street people of Gainesville, FL. We bought two of these Christie original portraits and have enjoyed them for many years. $1800 CN Plus Shipping

Maryland Shore -

16 x 20” on canvas. Artist: Bryan Quarke from Maryland, USA. — Bryan came from the Maryland Shores - He did a lot of shrimp fishing boats and beach scenes. Arthur and I visited his studio and bought some paintings that we’ve enjoyed for years. This one is bright and lively filled with feeling and action. $350 CN

URBAN GARDEN

23x49- From Beverly McClure, the Artist/Owner of the TANGLED GARDENS HERBAL FARM near Grand Pre in Nova Scotia — This is a large, important piece. A wonderful, constructed work of art using natural materials - twigs, grasses, sticks, bark.

$875 CN - Can’t be shipped

THE COW JUMPED OVER THE BLUE MOON

large folk art piece by BYRAN NAUGLER from the very famous family of folk artists down on the Eastern Shore. This wonderfully joyous piece had Pride of Place in my bathroom for many years. I even painted the wall bright yellow to show it off. It’s painted on board and has a rustic red & blue frame. The dimensions are about 32” x 40” - I’ll get the exact measurements for interested buyers.

$750 CN - Best if picked up at the gallery. However, could be shipped (I think) with special handling.

NORTH CAROLINA TOBACCO BARN

17x24 - BY S.E. Greer - 2009 - This is a really good painting. If you’ve ever been to the piney woods area of N.C., you’ll know what I mean — So many tall trees that the colors are almost brownish and the shadows are important. The rusty roof color of the barn dictates the palette of the painting with that “orangey” color calling for the complementary color of the blue sky. Very good and pleasing piece painted on art board with painting on the “studio wrap” edges. $950 CN Plus Shipping

Girl with Pink/Blonde Hair - 1972 by Alsatian artist, Michel Krieger

artist: Michel Kreiger, Alsace, France - 22 x 30” on canvas . Arthur and I met the artist when we first went to France. We went to his house and happened to see this painting, and immediately asked to purchase it. That would have been 1972. Later we bought several more of Michel’s works, mostly pen and ink drawings. The extraordinary thing about this artist was that he’d had polio and was badly disfigured to the extent that his friends carried him around to art events and bars. He had to have someone push a brush between his curled up fingers. And yet, he could paint and even draw.

The painting was professionally framed and has always been hanging in my house. Unfortunately, the colors are a bit off the original in this photo. We tried, but couldn’t correct the problem. The original is all soft pinks, greens and yellows. $3,500 CN Plus Shipping

The following paintings are by American artist -

ROBERT GOODLETT

I first saw Robert Goodlett’s paintings in Cedar Key, FL. which is a tiny island off the Northern Gulf Coast . They were absolutely wonderful realism of the flora and fauna of the region. Wonderfully painted - easy to see the great talent, but not my thing. Realism has never appealed to me a whole lot. I much prefer impressionistic art. — A few years later after we’d started Old Barn Gallery at Beaver Dam Farm, I was in Florida again and looked Robert up visiting his studio. Then I had a chance to see his impressionistic Flower pictures, and absolutely fell in love with them. So I bought a couple and commissioned several more. To me, an impressionistic version of florals tells the story of their beauty more so than realism. I only have a few of Goodlett’s florals left, and I reluctantly part with them. In fact, I have one in my bedroom that I plan to keep. (that is, one painting out of 14 in my bedroom.

FLORALS ON BLUE TABLE

15x18- This is one of my favorite Goodlett florals — Very impressionistic and painterly. How do you like that wonderful light from the background? Goodlette is most of the time, a Master Realist. I appreciated his glossy realism paintings of Florida flora and fauna, but it was these impressionistic paintings that really grabbed me.

Classic Pink Roses 2009

18 x 24” acrylic on canvas. Fabulous painting. I had it hanging in the bathroom for many years and it never ever disappointed me which is surprising since I’m a somewhat quirky abstract artist and am not normally drawn to such a classic..

The following small grouping are Canadian artists Arthur and I collected over the years.

Small hooked mat by Deanne Fitzpatrick

When I first discovered this wonderful Nova Scotia artist, I was just about blown away. Deanne Fitzpatrick does with yarn what the French Impressionists did with paint. I have this small one I’m willing to let go, and a truly magnificent & Huge one I’ll be keeping for awhile.

NOEL WHARF

30x40” acrylic (I think) on canvas. This one could be oil. I’m just not sure. Anyway, it’s a fabulous painting of NOVA SCOTIA. It’s down in the part of the province known for extraordinary high tides, and of course, extraordinary low tides which is what this painting shows. Just a gorgeous work full of light and interest. I have it hanging in my beautiful apartment above the Carriage House. I hesitated hanging it in the Loft apartment because the walls are filled with my husband’s art, the work of Charles Dawe, which is all rather impressionistic and “normally” I’m not drawn to realism. However, this painting looks totally fabulous in one of my favorite places on the farm. $1200 CN

FARM HOUSE and SYDNEY STEEL MILLS -

Artist: E. Vincent. 40 x 30” painting on board professionally finished with narrow steel frame. The colors in this painting are the first thing you see. Absolutely stunning sunset and sea with steel mills in mid-ground. This painting as well hung in our home for many many years.

Purple Shadows

24 x 29”

painting somewhat in the style of The Group of Seven. Arthur and I bought it at a fine art gallery in Montreal. I think I wanted it because of the laundry on the line. That’s a subject that’s always fascinated me about Canada - I think it’s a shame that it’s a rare site in the U.S. — I remember my grandmother being proud of her whitest whites and how she carefully hung the pieces on the clothes line. There was a right way and a wrong way. The colors in this beautiful picture are wonderful The yellow house and the slightly deeper yellow shed behind. Red houses, green houses, purple water with the ice going out. — You’ll treasure this painting for always. It’s a gem.
