Naveta’s newest paintings - winter of 2022

This past winter, 2022, I again went to Naples, Florida. This after missing going in 2021 because of Covid. - There are certain things I like about this place . . . . the thrift shops, the wonderful and incredibly diversified restaurants, and the sun; that is, when it’s not too hot or too humid. Then, there are the things I don’t care for like the traffic, the crowds, the snakes (well, there’s not a lot of them where I go anyway). And, the prevailing politics.

So, this year for my time in Florida I’d decided I wouldn’t take workshops, which I’d done for many previous years. What I’d do this winter was experiment with my art . . . . stretch myself . . . . dare to do just about anything.

I’d spent the winter of 2021 watching abstract art videos on YouTube, and I’d found a couple of artists that I loved, so during this past winter I thought I’d use these exciting artists to inspire my work. Well, I did that, and people liked the pictures, but they didn’t grab me, excite me, please me . . .

Then one day I was using my second canvas to wipe excess paint off my brushes and palette knives (I always paint with a second canvas set up on a second easel) and while working on the primary picture, I “off-load” paint onto this other canvas. I just smear it on, and sometimes I’ve found that the second canvas is actually more interesting than the primary one. This is because I’m “smearing” in a totally intuitive (abstract) way, and the colors are the same as the principle canvas.

I’ve heard many art instructors warning their studen I’m trying to explain how I came to paint the FAT BOTTOM GIRLS pictures. Off-loading paint (getting ride of excess paint on my palette, brushes, and knives). I do this in order to avoid flushing paint into the drains and pipes which can cause problems. So, that’s how this series started. I really liked what I saw smeared with wild abandon on the second canvas, so I really let loose and sketched some really loose lines on this colorful background . . . . And, lo and behold, it looked like I’d drawn a female shape . . . . And, I liked what I’d done. . . . . So, that is how the FAT BOTTO GIRLS series started.

Still more work to do to get this page done . . . . But I’m going to go ahead and post it anyway partially done. The new pictures are done, but the descriptions not so much. I’ll do them the next rainy day . . . . .

What do you see? SOLD

32 x 32” acrylic on canvas, painted in 2022.

Fat Bottom Girl #1 SOLD

This is the first FBG I painted. This painting was 100% intuitive, and I was and am very pleased with the result. So are most people who’ve seen it. The background colors are strong primaries, but the figure is rather soft and feminine. It’s on a 20 x 20 canvas, and I use acrylic paint. $675 CN

Fat Bottom Girl #2

I can’t tell you how intuitively these paintings were done. Intuition and experimentation all the way. This one is a big spooky and very impressionistic . . . as they all are. She’s the first in the series to have a noticeable facial expression. This is something that surprised me with each FBG “portrait” - Without in any way trying to be realistic, I found my loose brush strokes and smearing technique gave each subject a unique personality. On 20 x 20 canvas and I used acrylic paint.

$675 CN

Fat Bottom Girl #3

When I got into this painting, I realized that eaach of my “girls” had a personality. This one is modest and serious, or at least that’s the way I see it. Picture is in acrylic and measures 20 x 20”

$675 CN

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Fat Bottom Girls #4

Acrylic paint on a 20 x 20” canvas. This girl emerged as a sprightly, spunky teen ready to dance. I love her electric blue hair.

$675 CN

Fat Bottom Girl #5

20 x 20” acrylic on canvas. This girl with all the curves is sad, worried, stressed. But she’s also elegant and has a story she’s hiding.

$675 CN

Fat Bottom Girl #6

This girl with the flaming red hair and the demure pearl necklace is without doubt, exciting. 20 x 20” acrylic on canvas.

$675 CN

Fat Bottom Girl #7

This girl is happy, self assured, and generally pleased with her life. The colors are upbeat, and her body position indicates she’s listening closely to someone.

20 x 20” acrylic on canvas

$675 CN

Fat Bottom Girl#8

20 x 24” acrylic on canvas One of our favorite Fat Bottom Girls. The colors are rich and the texture is impressive. I’m sorely tempted to take this one off the gallery wall and put it in my house.

Because of the colors and shapes, it’s an extremely decorative picture. $850CN

Fat Bottom Girl #9

Acrylic on canvas 20 x 20” This girl knows she’s good looking and doesn’t mind showing it. She’s a temptress with pink/gold hair. But her expression shows she’s competent, and astute.

Frankly, creating this body of work totally astounded me. They’re all relatively the same, but Oh, so different in character and personality.

$675 CN

Fat Bottom Girl #10

28 x 32” acrylic on canvas. This is the largest of FBG series. And, she’s a serene, mature woman. That’s the way I see her. A woman who understands her own worth, and she really looks like she’s sitting for a portrait, which of course she wasn’t, as all these females are figments of my imagination.

$1500 CN

Fat Bottom Girl #11

24 x 24” Doesn’t she have an “I dare you” attitude. The posture, the tilt of the head, and the wind in her hair portray her character. Wow! I can’t tell you how exciting this series was for me. I loved doing it, and the paintings continue to please me . . . . which is how I personally decide if I’ve done something good.

$1500 CN

Fat Bottom Boy #1

20 x 20” acrylic on canvas - What intense, serious, sensitive eyes he has. I think this painting was influenced by all the wonderful and strong men I’ve had working on my farm these past 30+ years. I am truly indebted to them, as obviously, I never could have achieved all that’s been done here over these many years.

$1500 CN
